Robotic Pool Cleaner Repair: 3 Common Solutions

  • By Mattia A.

    Consultant at MetodoBlu.it

In this article, you'll learn how to fix the following problems:

  • Pool robot does not start / Pool robot does not start

  • Pool robot stops

  • Pool robot stops after a few seconds

  • Pool robot stops after a few minutes

  • Pool robot does not complete the cleaning cycle

These are the most common problems when it comes to robot pool cleaner repairs. Today, we'll discover the best solutions to resolve each issue.

This guide is valid for any robot: Dolphin, Zodiac, Aquabot, BWT, Hayward.

Repairing a pool robot is a process that is divided into three fundamental phases:

Index:

  • Power supply

  • Power cord

  • Engine box

  • 2. Repair

  • 3. Pool test

  • 1. Diagnosi

The analysis phase serves to identify all the possible causes of a faulty pool robot, pinpointing the origin of the anomaly.

  • 2. Repair

Repair is the phase in which, once the fault has been identified, the defective parts are replaced or repaired.

  • 3. Pool test

Finally, the pool test verifies that the repair was successful and that everything is working properly.

1. Diagnosi

Title

It's important to note that pool robots are designed to perform a self-diagnosis within the first few seconds of operation, checking that all components are working properly.

When an anomaly is detected, even a minor one, the robot stops within the first few seconds of operation.

To identify the cause of it blocking after a few seconds or minutes, without completing the cleaning cycle, you need to take the following elements into consideration:

  • Power supply
  • Power cord
  • Traction & Pressure
  • Engine Box

Typically, pool robot repair centers, such as Metodoblu.it, have analyzers (see photo 1) that, thanks to software, detect the fault by reading the errors from the robot's electronic board.

This procedure allows for a targeted, fast, and safe repair. For more information on how to entrust us with the repair of your robot, worry-free and with complete peace of mind, visit our page and book your robot's home pickup within 24 hours, with a 100% free estimate.

Power supply

Title

The power supply for Dolphin, Zodiac, Aquabot, BWT, and Hayward robots typically supplies a voltage between 24V and 30V. The first step is to check the correct output voltage using an electrical tester set to DC.

To do this, you need to locate the output pins and check that the voltage corresponds to what is indicated on the power supply label (usually 29 V).

Note : Some Zodiac power supply models lock out after 3 seconds without detecting a connection to the box. This limits the time available to measure voltage.

Checking the voltage is the first step to rule out the power supply as the cause of the fault. However, it's important to keep in mind that the robot may also lack the power (watts) required for proper operation. For now, let's move on to the next step.

Power cord

Title

The power cord provides the necessary power from the power supply to the pool robot. If it is damaged, it can cause the robot to shut down unexpectedly or prevent it from starting.

To check that it is working correctly, if the swivel is present, you must first check (by opening it carefully) that there are no water infiltrations inside.

Then, with the same care, unscrew the connector connecting to the motor box and remove it, so as to examine the cable entering the motor box.

Using the same tester set to direct current (DC), turn on the power supply with the cable connected and check that the same voltage is present on the black and white pins outputting the power supply.

If the voltage is the same as expected, the cable and power supply are working properly. Otherwise, the robot's problem lies in this phase.

Traction & Pressure

Title

Drive includes the gears, bearings, pulleys, and brushes—all the components that allow the robot to move around the pool. At this stage, you'll need to manually check that everything turns freely.

Next, you need to open the side covers to check that each component is in good condition and does not require replacement.

For pressure, the most common problem is with the impeller or filter. Check the impeller for debris, lint, or cracks. Also check that the filter is intact, not clogged, and does not need to be replaced.

Engine box

Title

Once you have verified that the correct voltage is reaching the motor, thus excluding the power supply and cable as possible causes of the fault, you need to intervene on the motor box.

At this point, there are two solutions available:

Replacing the engine box , if you are certain that the problem is caused by it. In this case, assembly must be performed exclusively by specialized centers, to avoid invalidating the manufacturer's legal warranty.

Attempt to repair the engine box by replacing the damaged internal component.

The second is a very delicate operation, not recommended for those without the necessary experience, as it can easily cause further damage, even total destruction of the garage. The most common causes are water infiltration due to improper sealing.

Internal repair is a process that must be carried out by expert technicians, equipped with all the tools and spare parts necessary for a safe and definitive restoration of the engine box.

2. Repair

Title

Once the components responsible for the fault have been identified, and therefore for the premature shutdown or failure to start, we proceed with the repair phase of the pool robot, that is, the checking and replacement of all defective parts.

As already mentioned, this step is very delicate: if the parts supplied by the manufacturer are not installed correctly and by specialized personnel, the legal guarantee could be invalidated.

It is essential to thoroughly check that each element is in optimal condition, as any worn or unchecked components could damage the new ones.

For example, if the drive components are compromised, they could strain the newly installed engine and damage it, thus voiding its warranty.

For these reasons, it's important to choose a trusted, reputable, and reliable center with positive, verified reviews . At MetodoBlu, we're committed to offering excellent, convenient, and fast service: we invite you to read our customer reviews at the bottom of the page.

3. Pool test

Title

Testing in the pool, after replacing the faulty parts and verifying that the other robot components are intact and do not compromise the new ones, is a fundamental step.

At MetodoBlu, we always perform three complete test cycles to ensure that the pool robot works correctly and without problems.

Once the tests are complete, the robot is ready for return!

The duration of the entire repair process varies depending on the type and complexity of the fault, but in general we can provide a quote within 1 or 2 days of receiving the robot, ensuring rapid and professional interventions.
